RCSI Heritage Collections

Tonight is the Littlewoods Ireland Blog Awards  and excitement levels are reaching fever pitch in the Heritage Collections!  Woo hooo! Let's get this party started! The awards ceremony will be at Duffy's Circus in Dun Laoghaire so to get in the mood, we decided we would have a look at some glass lantern slides taken of animals in Dublin Zoo in the 1890s and early 1900s. These slides are part of the J Alfred Scott Collection and give a great insight into one of Dublin's favourite visitor attractions, Dublin Zoo . Up until recently exotic animals were part and parcel of the circus. Thankfully the times they are a changing and animals are no longer being made perform in circuses. Instead they are getting to live the rest of their lives out in a happy carefree environment. Not having anything related to circuses in the collections but having established a now tenuous link between circuses and animals the (il)logical conclusion is to look at animals from Dublin Zoo wh...

RCSI Heritage Collections are delighted to announce that we have been shortlisted in the Littlewoods Ireland Blog Awards 2016 in the Corporate Arts & Culture Blog category . So while we shake the dust off the gúna and get the polish out for the bróga.... Voting has opened but is not open for very long. It runs from today Wednesday 17th to Tuesday 23rd August. Courtesy of David Carus It's tomorrow! RCSI will celebrate the culture of Dublin and Ireland as well as the cultures of a number of other countries. Culture Night will kick off with a series of special performances at the St Stephen's Green entrance to the College, where you can see a variety of musical and dancing performances that showcase the cultures of just some of the 60+ countries where our students come from. These will take place from 5.30pm until 6pm.  Inside the College, you can take a self-guided tour or talk to a member of the RCSI Culture Night team to learn about the rich heritage and history of RCSI and the part it has played in shaping both local and national history, including when the building was seized by rebels led by Michael Mallin and Countess Markievicz during the 1916 Easter Rising.
